SEO Optimization Case Study: Enhancing Developer Portfolio Visibility
Data-driven technical SEO strategy and implementation plan, engineering topical authority hubs, structured JSON-LD schemas, and keyword architecture.

Figure 1: High-level architectural overview and system topology.
The Engineering Challenge
The portfolio website suffered from several technical SEO bottlenecks that prevented it from ranking for relevant developer search queries: * Search engine indexing was accidentally disabled in the settings. * Default metadata tags were unoptimized, leading to search snippet truncation. * The homepage contained unresolved broken links and layout heading tags (`<h2>`) that diluted search engine topical relevance. * Core images lacked descriptive `alt` tags.
Architecture & Core Components

Key Engineering Challenges & Solutions
Correcting Heading Hierarchy Dilutions in Elementor
The page layout utilized multiple decorative heading widgets (like email and years of experience counters) set as `<h2>` tags, which cluttered the page's heading hierarchy and confused search engine crawlers.
Cleaned up the Elementor page builder template settings to convert decorative text blocks from `<h2>` to standard paragraphs or styled spans, keeping only core content sections (like Professional Summary and Case Studies) under proper `<h2>` tags.
Restored a clean, standard heading structure for search engines to scan core layout topics.
Synchronizing Hardcoded Elementor Alt Text with Media Metadata
Even after updating the media library image alt tags, the homepage profile image continued to render with an empty `alt=""` attribute because Elementor overrides the alt text value inside its widget configuration.
Wrote a custom PHP routine to parse the JSON string stored in the `_elementor_data` postmeta field, search for image widget instances referencing the profile picture attachment ID, update the inline `"alt"` values, and save the updated data structure back to the database.
Resolved the missing alt attributes on the rendered HTML page.
Architectural Decisions & Trade-offs
**Manual Database Patches vs. Elementor Editor Interface:** Used custom PHP script execution via MCP to locate and replace alt text settings inside Elementor's database JSON strings. While this required writing parsing code, it bypassed manual page-by-page editing in the WordPress admin dashboard.
Performance, Scalability & Security
- •Cleaned up the LiteSpeed Cache and Elementor post CSS caches to ensure instant delivery of updated HTML code.
- •Rank Math SEO audit score improved significantly.
- •Enabled strict security headers and validated GSC property connection.
Outcomes & Lessons Learned
The optimizations immediately improved the site's overall Rank Math SEO audit score, establishing a clean, search-engine-friendly foundation for ranking developer projects and blog articles.
- In page builders like Elementor, updating the media library is sometimes not enough to resolve alt tag errors; widget-level configurations must be checked and synchronized.
- Relational heading structures are critical for giving search engines a clear understanding of a page's topical hierarchy.
